IEEE EMC Society – Standards Development Committees
Open to all symposium attendees!
The IEEE EMC 2009 Symposium is a perfect opportunity to learn about the Standards that guide our industry. Do not miss the numerous working Standards Committee meetings at this Symposium! These meetings, which have a major impact on how you do your job, are open to everyone interested; in fact you are encouraged to attend. These meetings range from specific working groups tasked with resolving issues for an individual standard to the oversight and steering committees that guide general standard development.
So what are the benefits of spending time in some of these meetings?
• You will get to see those technical areas where standards are being refined or newly created and so have advanced information on how your product, design, or test procedures may be changing
• You can get to know the people who are working these issues, experts in their fields, and those representing particular industry segments
• These meetings provide opportunity to become better acquainted with other areas of the discipline, and perhaps provide a level of personal growth that is not possible through formal classes and other resources
• The insights that you can get from these meetings will not only help greatly in applying the standards in your daily work but will hopefully lead to feedback to the standards teams so the coming revision of standards can be improved
• Your expertise may be a close fit with the work going on and hence you may be able to join the activity which is largely done by email, and have a sense of ownership and satisfaction seeing your input being considered
The schedule of working group and other Standards Committee meetings will be given in the final program, however, note that some of these meetings will take place on Sunday prior to the start of the symposium. Be sure to attend those of most interest to you and your company. To get a summary of the active IEEE EMC Standards, you are invited to attend the Standards Development Committee (SDCom) meetings, as this is where each of the working group chairs report. On Monday at the first part of the SDCom meeting, two other Standards Committees meet immediately following this meeting including the Standards Education and Training Committee and the Standards Advisory and Coordination Committee.
